Marvel Zombies Resurrection

With Marvel Zombie, in the singular, Marvel attempted their first reboot of the “Marvel Zombies” franchise since the eponymous zombies first appeared in Ultimate Fantastic Four #21. It probably made sense to do so at the time, as following the end of Marvel Zombies 5, there hadn’t really been a serious Marvel Zombies book to come out in a while. Just some tie-ins like with Squadron Supreme and Marvel Apes, and even a Christmas special for some reason. Cuz why not, I guess?

Marvel Zombie was a one-shot, possibly an attempt to put out feelers to see if there was any interest in a full reboot of Marvel Zombies that could lead to an additional series. I guess it didn’t land, though, because we never saw anything more of Garth and Donny after they walked away at the end of that series.

But ya know what they say, you can’t keep a good corpse down, so it was really only a matter of time until Marvel tried again. Cue: Marvel Zombies: Resurrection!

This series would also get a one-shot comic in 2019, but I guess it caught a lot more attention then the Simon Garth story from a year before it, because it would then be followed up by its own four-issue mini series, making this just as long as any other Marvel Zombies to date. All five issues would be written by Philip Kennedy Johnson, from the land of the three named people, a relative newcomer to the comics world, but if he sticks with it, he’s definitely going to be one of the biggest names around, as already evidenced by his Eisner nominated run on Action Comics.

Joining Kennedy for this series is artist Leonard Kirk, who was well on his second decade of notable work in the industry by this point. Guru eFx would provide colors for the 2019 issue, with Rochelle Rosenberg returning from Marvel Zombie to finish out the final four issues, and in my opinion, you could hardly ask for two better colorists for your comic book.

Lastly there’s Inhyuk Lee providing some extra ghastly Zombie covers that are every bit as eye-catching as the Suydam covers on the classic series.

So does the series live up to the epic team working on it? Find out by checking out the video above!
