X-Men ’92

It all began with Secret Wars.

That event told a story where the various heroes and villains from across the Marvel universe were captured by a being of endless power called the Beyonder, who desired to see them all for its amusement. So the Beyonder built Battleworld, a patchwork world put together from various pieces of other worlds, ripped from the original planets and smashed together into a giant Frankenstein-ien mash-up.

While Secret Wars would be a big hit, its success wouldn’t really be imitated again. At least, not until writer Jonathan Hickman came along.

During Hickman’s run on Avengers, the Marvel multiverse would begin to collapse. This multiverse contained all the various different storytelling universes that we’ve seen from Marvel over the years that took place outside of the main Marvel continuity. This included, but was far from limited to, things like Marvel Zombies, Marvel 2099, the Ultimate Universe, or Age of Apocalypse.

With the 2015 Secret Wars comic, every single Marvel universe would cease to exist, but Dr. Doom, gaining the immense power of the Beyonders, would gather up chunks of various different Earths from across all those different universes and mash them together into a new Battleworld.

Each of these areas would be from a world long-time Marvel fans would recognize, but most notably of all them, at least for this review, is the one called Westchester.

Westchester is a county in New York, and home of the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters in pretty much all universes, but in terms of Battleworld, it’s home to a version of the X-Men and their surrounding characters based off of the 1992 X-Men Animated Series.

Like with many of the counties of Battleworld, Westchester received its own comic in the form of X-Men ‘92, written not by Hickman but by the team of Chris Sims and Chad Bowers, and it proved so popular itself that it then split off to get a second series following the end of Secret Wars. I’m going to cover both of those series, so strap on your rollerblades and sweet pink sunglasses and check out the video above!
